The Wyoming School Foundation is proud to announce that Scott L. Pomeroy, MD, PhD (WHS Class of 1971) has been selected as the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus. He will be honored during Foundation Day at Wyoming High School on Monday, November 10th.
Dr. Pomeroy’s journey from a well-rounded student in Wyoming to a world-renowned physician and scientist is nothing short of inspiring. Today, he is the Bronson Crothers Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and one of the nation’s leading experts in child neurology. For nearly two decades, he also served as Chair of the Department of Neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he helped build one of the country’s top programs dedicated to the study and treatment of childhood brain tumors.
His pioneering research has redefined how the world understands pediatric brain tumors. By identifying the molecular foundations of these conditions, Dr. Pomeroy’s work has directly influenced the World Health Organization’s international tumor classification system, shaping how physicians and researchers across the globe diagnose and treat children.
The impact of his career is immense. With more than 200 scientific publications and over 90,000 citations, his discoveries continue to guide new generations of researchers and clinicians. In recognition of these achievements, Dr. Pomeroy was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Medicine.
But beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Pomeroy has always remained grounded in family and community. Alongside his wife, Marie Stewart (WHS ’71), he enjoys time with their five children and nine grandchildren. An adventurer at heart, he finds joy in outdoor exploration, travel, and photography.
From his days as a WHS student active in academics, arts, athletics, and service, to his leadership on the global medical stage, Dr. Pomeroy exemplifies the values of excellence, compassion, and dedication. His legacy serves as a reminder of the powerful foundation a Wyoming education can provide.
Please join us in celebrating Dr. Scott L. Pomeroy, the 2025 WHS Distinguished Alumnus, and honoring his remarkable contributions to medicine, research, and humanity.
